Cats want the Option of Invisible Travel

Cats want the Option of Invisible Travel

If yourcat is hesitant to walk around the room or you have  a multiple cathousehold where there’s some tension betweenthe cats, it can be helpful to offer ways for the less confident cats tonavigate less conspicuously. I use this method with new cats in their sanctuaryrooms. The cat may be hiding in the closet or under the bed because he’s afraidto travel to his food bowlor litter box.Being so exposed make him very vulnerable. I set up tunnels assafe routes to his resources so he can feel hidden. I make tunnels out of paperbags by cutting the bottoms of the bags, opening the bags up and taping themtogether. You can also make tunnels out of long boxes. The homemade tunnelsallow you customize the length easily and also to add peek holes in the tunnelsso the cat can look out and begin to get to know his new environment.

This hiding tunnel method can also be used in a multi-cat home to help a cat walkthrough a room. You can place the tunnels behind furniture so the lessconfident cat can quietly walk through the room. When creating a tunnel for amulti-cat environment, make sure you cut an escape hole halfway through sothere’s always an option for one cat to make a quick exit if he’s halfwaythrough the tunnel and another cat enters.
